a family library

A house full of books, and no idea what's in it.
- You buy a book, get home, and find it's already on the shelf.
- You lend a favourite and can't remember who has it.
- The kids say there's nothing to read, standing in front of three hundred books.
Your whole library, in your pocket.
- Every book listed, with its cover, and you can search it from the shop aisle.
- Who in the family has read it, is reading it, or wants to.
- Who borrowed what, and which books you've borrowed from friends.
- A wishlist, so birthday presents aren't doubles.
- Your kids' reading in one place. A grown-up adds them, so no kid accounts.
Built by a family with too many books.
Limner started in our tiny New York apartment, where our family library had outgrown the shelves and books were stored anywhere they would fit. I could never remember which books I'd already bought or where I'd put them, and I was collecting beautiful gilded hardcovers, so I wanted to keep track of the exact copies we owned, not just the titles.
- Bring what you already have: Goodreads, StoryGraph, LibraryThing and Libib exports, spreadsheets, a list of ISBNs, or scan barcodes.
- You check every list before anything is added. If Limner isn't sure about a spine, it shows you a close-up of it.
Three steps to a library you can see.
- Name your library. One email and you're in.
- Photograph your shelves. Limner reads the spines and you check the list.
- Add your family. Everyone sees what's here and what they're reading.
A family library, not just a pile of books
You want your books to get read, by you, your partner and your kids. But once a home has more than a few shelves, nobody really knows what's on them. Books get bought twice, lent and forgotten, and lost behind other books. That's a waste of books you already love.
Limner fixes it. Photograph each shelf and Limner reads the spines, or bring in a list you already keep. You check the list, and your whole library is there to search on your phone or computer. Then add your family, so everyone can see who's reading what, mark what they want next and keep track of who's borrowed what.
Stop guessing what's on your shelves, and start reading what's already there.
