Getting an account
You can start a library, or join one, in the app or on the website.
- Starting a new library in the app: on the sign-in screen, tap Create an account. Give your email address and a name for your library, and we'll email you a six-digit code. Type it in, then choose your name and a password.
- Starting a new library on the website: set one up here, confirm your email address from the link we send, then sign in on the app with the same email and password.
- Joining someone's library: ask one of its admins to invite you. In the app, tap I have an invitation on the sign-in screen and type the code from the invitation email. Use the address the invitation was sent to and you can go straight to choosing a password. Use a different address and we'll email it a six-digit code first, to check it's yours. On the website, open the link in the invitation email instead.
What to try
- Add a book. Tap Add in the middle of the tab bar and point the camera at the barcode on the back cover. If the camera won't read it, tap Type ISBN. No barcode? Tap Search to find it by title or author (Library's + does the same).
- Add a book from a photo. No barcode? In the app, tap Add then Photo; on the website, tap + in the Library then Take a photo. Photograph the front cover or the title page. Pick the book from what it finds. The photo is read by Anthropic's Claude AI to find the title and author, and isn't kept. In the app, tap Take another photo for the next book, and Done when you've finished.
- Bring in a whole library. Admins can go to More → Import Books (a library with no books yet also shows it on the Library tab). It reads Goodreads and StoryGraph exports, spreadsheets, pasted lists and photos of a shelf, and lets you check what it found before anything is added. Photos, pasted text and spreadsheet rows are read by Anthropic's Claude AI to find titles and authors, and used for nothing else.
- Read a book. Open a book, set it to Reading, and update your page as you go. The Home tab keeps the book you're reading right at the top.
- Rate it and say what you thought. Give a book stars, then write a line or two under What did you think?
- See what the household thought. A book's page lists everyone else's stars and words, and when they finished it.
- Keep a wishlist. For a book you don't own yet, tap Want it to put it on your Wishlist. When you buy it, tap We got it and it joins the library.
- Add the widget. Press and hold your Home Screen, tap + and choose Currently Reading to see your book and how far you are.
Forgotten your password?
Ask for a reset link and we'll email you a way to choose a new one. An admin of your library can also send you one.
"Upgrading" screens
When we release an update, your library may show an "upgrading" message for a minute or two. Nothing is lost — try again shortly.
